Morbid Mortality Monthly - July
Health professionals are always banging on about how essential it is for good health to drink plenty of water. Unfortunately it was a message that 35-year-old Shaun McNamara from York took to heart a little too seriously. In April 2007, his body was discovered in the bathroom of his home.
The cause of death initially puzzled coroners until they discovered that McNamara had been consuming huge amounts of water on a daily basis. The intake of up to 20 litres of bottled water a day had caused McNamara to develop hyponatremia - also known as water intoxication or water poisoning. The rare condition is usually seen in marathon runners who drink too much water during a race. It leads to a fatal disturbance in brain function when the normal balance of electrolytes in the body is pushed beyond safe limits by massive water intake - which is exactly what happened to McNamara. As one coroner said at the time: "He drank himself to death, just not with alcohol."

Production Update
Spending numerous hours editing late at night doesn't have to be an arduous task - you simply need to approach it with a unique perspective. Our hands on boom swinger and co-editor Luke decided what better way to brighten up everyones world that to edit dressed as a banana.
His reward for bringing humour to the editing session: to slap himself so we could get the perfect slap sound effect.
Ah Luke, editing would be boring without you :)
